Solana Gains Momentum with Alibaba Cloud’s Strategic Support
In a remarkable development for the Solana ecosystem, Alibaba Cloud has demonstrated significant infrastructure enhancements during a keynote in Hong Kong. This event showcased the high-performance Solana Remote Procedure Call (RPC) connectivity, positioning it as a pivotal element in Alibaba Cloud’s strategy to integrate AI with Web3 development processes.
Alibaba Cloud Showcases Solana RPC Capabilities
During the Accelerate APAC 2026 keynote, themed “Fueling Web3 Innovation with AI on Cloud,” Zhao Qingyuan from Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group emphasized the company’s commitment to reducing latency and operational costs for developers. This is particularly crucial for trading-intensive applications where every millisecond counts.
Innovative Use of AI in Solana Development
Zhao Qingyuan highlighted how AI-driven development can streamline processes by demonstrating his weekend project. He successfully migrated a Solana archive node from a Google Bigtable setup to Alibaba Cloud’s proprietary database. Despite having limited experience with Solana’s development tools, Zhao leveraged AI-assisted coding to achieve this in just two days.
“Over the weekend, I transitioned the Solana archive node from Google Bigtable to Alibaba Cloud’s database. Without prior knowledge in Rust, I utilized web coding to complete this task in two days. The system will download historical slot data from Hugging Face, synchronize with the mainnet, and offer RPC services,” Zhao explained.
Enhanced Performance and Reduced Latency
A significant takeaway from the demonstration was the latency reduction achieved through Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure. By routing users through its backbone network instead of the public internet, Alibaba Cloud significantly decreased the latency for RPC calls. Zhao presented data showing that the “get slot” RPC call latency dropped from approximately 25 milliseconds to around 10 milliseconds, marking a substantial improvement. Similarly, for “get block” RPC calls, the latency fell from over 200 milliseconds to under 200 milliseconds, underscoring the setup’s stability and suitability for low-latency environments.
Global Reach and Strategic Positioning
Alibaba Cloud emphasized its global presence, citing regions like Frankfurt, the US, and several Asia-Pacific hubs, including Tokyo, Singapore, and Hong Kong. This extensive network aligns perfectly with Solana’s developer community and applications that demand low latency.
While the presentation did not announce a formal partnership or a commercial Solana RPC service with specific pricing or Service Level Agreements (SLAs), the implications are significant. A prominent cloud provider publicly demonstrating RPC latency improvements on a Solana platform signals a strong endorsement of Solana’s potential in trading and high-frequency applications.
Current Market Insights
As of the latest data, Solana (SOL) is trading at $81. The cryptocurrency continues to maintain its position above the 0.786 Fibonacci level on the weekly chart, reflecting its resilience in the market.
