Qubic’s Strategic Shift: Transitioning from Monero to Dogecoin Mining
In a significant development in the cryptocurrency mining landscape, Qubic is set to initiate its planned transition from Monero to Dogecoin mining starting April 1. The Qubic team, through a detailed post on X, has outlined a strategic three-phase rollout. This phased approach is designed to ensure a smooth transition without abruptly switching the network’s operations.
Structured Transition to Dogecoin Mining
Qubic emphasizes that the shift from Monero to Dogecoin will not be instantaneous. The core team has meticulously crafted a three-phase approach where each stage is thoroughly assessed before proceeding to the next. This deliberate strategy aims to seamlessly integrate “DOGE + AI” to operate concurrently and consistently.
Phase One: Initial Testing
The initial phase, beginning on April 1, serves as a critical testing period that spans one to two epochs. During this time, revenue from mining activities will still be calculated in Monero (XMR). Monero mining will operate at 50% capacity, while Dogecoin will be tested at full capacity on the mainnet. AI training will continue to run concurrently. This phase is designed to introduce Dogecoin into the system without completely dismantling the current Monero-based incentive structure.
Phase Two: Migration
The second phase marks the actual migration process, lasting for one to two epochs. During this period, users, referred to as “computors,” can choose between receiving revenue in XMR or DOGE. XMR will begin to phase out as DOGE becomes the primary revenue source, with additional incentives for choosing DOGE. Qubic specifies that once computors opt for DOGE, they will no longer be eligible to receive XMR.
Phase Three: Full Transition
In the final phase, Qubic will fully transition to DOGE revenue. The XMR dispatcher will be completely deactivated, allowing DOGE mining and AI training to operate at full capacity continuously. The team underscores the importance of a disciplined execution without rushing or shortcuts.
Performance Enhancements and Economic Rationale
Qubic has paired this transition roadmap with a significant performance enhancement claim linked to the April 1 launch. As of March 23, Qubic reported that its network has become “3x faster” on the live mainnet, with tick times reduced from 2 seconds to 0.6 seconds. This improvement means faster confirmations and a more efficient network, capable of handling increased load.
The economic rationale for targeting Dogecoin is compelling. According to Qubic, the earlier Monero campaign successfully captured over 51% of Monero’s hashrate, generating significant revenue. Dogecoin represents an even larger opportunity, producing approximately 14.4 million coins daily, equating to about $1.44 million at current prices. This is roughly ten times the daily emission of Monero, making Dogecoin a highly lucrative target.
