Former Fortnite Pro Player Allegedly Linked to Meme Coin Scam and Celebrity Hacks
An in-depth investigation by well-known crypto analyst ZachXBT has brought to light the potential involvement of a former professional Fortnite player in a substantial meme coin scam. The case, involving a loss of $3.5 million, has been connected to the renowned gamer known as Serpent.
Unveiling the Link to Serpent’s Crypto Activities
ZachXBT delved into the hacking of nine celebrity accounts that were exploited for meme coin schemes. His findings suggest a significant connection between these activities and Serpent, indicating the possibility that the ex-gaming professional orchestrated this high-profile scam.
Serpent’s Crypto Wallets Under Scrutiny
The investigation highlighted a crypto trail pointing to Serpent. ZachXBT reported that multiple wallet addresses involved in the scam have ties to the former gamer. He noted Serpent’s extensive involvement in various Pump.fun meme coin scams, which leveraged compromised social media accounts to promote these fraudulent tokens.
High-Profile Accounts Breached
Among the accounts breached in these scams was McDonald’s Instagram. The account was used to promote the GRIMACE token, resulting in over $690,000 in ill-gotten gains through a pump-and-dump tactic. The stolen funds were traced back to two main crypto wallets, with subsequent transfers involving 101.5 SOL to deploy the SCHRADER token.
Hacked Accounts and Promoted Tokens
Additionally, the meme coin was advertised on actor Dean Norris X’s account, which had also been compromised at that time. This pattern of hacking and promoting fraudulent tokens was consistent across multiple high-profile accounts.
Online Casino Links and Deleted Evidence
ZachXBT’s investigation also uncovered that the funds from these scams were funneled into online gambling platforms. The investigator noted that Serpent began deleting posts from his new X account following the publication of these findings, raising suspicions about his involvement.
Serpent’s e-sports history also came under scrutiny, with reports from Ginx.tv indicating his expulsion from the e-sports organization “Overtime” in June 2020 due to cheating allegations.
Wider Implications of Cryptocurrency Scams
This incident is a part of a broader trend of crypto-related scams and hacks targeting celebrity accounts. Experts note that the crypto market has seen numerous fraudulent activities this year, with celebrity endorsements often manipulated to promote scams.
Such revelations underscore the importance of vigilance and enhanced security measures in the rapidly evolving crypto landscape.
