Friday morning’s Nonfarm Payrolls report from the government revealed that the U.S. added 142,000 jobs in August. This number fell short of economist forecasts, which had predicted 160,000 new jobs. July’s numbers were also revised, showing an increase of 89,000 jobs instead of the previously reported 114,000.
The unemployment rate in August edged down to 4.2%, in line with expectations. This was a slight decrease from July’s rate of 4.3%.
