Strategy Firm Bolsters Bitcoin Holdings with Major Acquisition
Noteworthy Bitcoin Purchase: 22,337 BTC Added to Strategy’s Treasury
In a significant development, the Bitcoin treasury firm Strategy has announced a substantial acquisition of 22,337 BTC. This latest addition ranks as the fifth-largest purchase in the company’s history, marking a notable milestone in their cryptocurrency investment strategy.
Details of the Recent Bitcoin Acquisition
Michael Saylor, co-founder and chairman of Strategy, shared insights about this major acquisition in a recent post on X. The purchase, involving 22,337 BTC, underscores the firm’s continued commitment to expanding its Bitcoin reserves. This transaction is one of the largest in the company’s history, following a significant buy of 55,500 BTC in November 2024. The firm’s historical acquisitions also include notable purchases of 51,780, 27,200, and 29,646 BTC in previous years.
Financial Aspects of the Acquisition
The recent acquisition was valued at $1.57 billion, with each BTC costing approximately $70,194. While this purchase ranks as the fifth largest in terms of BTC acquired, it is only the ninth largest when evaluated in US dollar terms due to varying BTCUSD rates at the time of purchase. This strategic buy was funded through proceeds from Strategy’s STRC and MSTR at-the-market (ATM) stock offerings, as per the filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Current Holdings and Market Impact
Following this purchase, Strategy’s total Bitcoin holdings have reached 761,068 BTC, representing about 3.8% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply. The firm has invested a cumulative $57.61 billion in building its Bitcoin reserve, with an average cost basis of $75,696. Despite currently being in the red, recent price recoveries have mitigated some of the financial losses.
