Insightful Analysis of Institutional Movement in the XRP Ledger Report

Comprehensive Insights into XRPL’s Q3 2025 Developments

In a recent analysis, the crypto market intelligence leader, Messari, released its insightful Q3 State of XRP Ledger (XRPL) report. This document underscores a network in maturation, which is swiftly garnering the attention of institutional investors. The report highlights key metrics such as heightened engagement, escalated transaction volumes, and an increase in new addresses. These trends indicate a shift from a retail-centric blockchain towards one that is increasingly driven by enterprise-level adoption and the tokenization of Real-World Assets (RWA).

Institutional Engagement and XRPL Network Expansion

Messari’s Q3 2025 findings reveal significant institutional activities within the XRPL network. Specifically, average daily transactions experienced an 8.9% increase from the previous quarter, moving from $1.6 million to $1.8 million. Additionally, the average daily active sender addresses saw a 15.4% rise, reaching 23,300 from 21,900. New addresses on the Ledger surged by 46.3%, totaling 447,200. By the quarter’s end, the Ledger boasted 6.9 million total addresses, marking a 6.1% growth from the previous quarter.

Interestingly, for the fifth consecutive quarter, the report points out that the number of active receiver addresses on the Ledger exceeded the active sender addresses. In Q3 2025, average daily receivers fell by 30.01% from 72,000 to 50,300, whereas daily senders increased by 15.4% to 25,300. Despite a dip in receiver activity, the overall network throughput improved, with average daily transactions increasing by 8.9% to $1.8 million. This uptick reflects a more concentrated and higher-value transaction flow, often linked to custodians and centralized exchanges (CEXs) utilizing destination tags to manage institutional and large user group deposits.

Moreover, the report highlights that “Payment” transactions continue to dominate the XRPL, contributing 55.7% to total network activity. “OfferCreate” transactions, which involve order submissions to exchanges, rose to 33.2%, marking the seventh consecutive quarter where Payments have led transaction types. Payment volume increased by 1% to 986,600 following a previous decline, while OfferCreate activities indicated expanded liquidity operations among institutional market makers. The use of OracleSet, for creating or updating on-chain price oracles, climbed to 0.7% of all transactions, showcasing the Ledger’s growing integration with asset pricing and financial data since their activation in late 2024.

Infrastructure Enhancements and the Role of ETFs in XRPL’s Institutional Uptake

The latter half of Messari’s report delves into the infrastructural advancements within the XRPL ecosystem, designed to promote institutional adoption. Key developments include the introduction of Multi-Purpose Tokens (MPTs) that incorporate metadata for RWA parameters. Furthermore, the implementation of confidential MPTs secured by Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) and advanced credential systems supporting Know Your Customer (KYC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) compliance are noteworthy. These enhancements are pivotal in addressing the network’s identity, financial, compliance, and privacy needs, thereby paving the way for extensive institutional adoption.

Additionally, the outlook for XRPL is buoyed by the anticipated approval of seven US Spot XRP ETF applications. The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is expected to make a decision between October 18 and November 14, with Polymarket assigning a 99% probability of approval for a US XRP ETF in 2025.
