Around 13% of Liverpudlians have reported actively investing in cryptocurrencies and monitoring stock prices consistently. This marks a significant interest in digital finance, particularly in assets like Bitcoin and Ethereum, despite the fluctuating market conditions.
Understanding Liverpool’s Crypto Enthusiasm
According to the findings, residents of Liverpool demonstrate the highest engagement with digital assets compared to other UK cities. The study’s 13% figure surpasses that of all other locations surveyed, highlighting a robust local interest in cryptocurrency trading and investment. Many Liverpool residents reportedly check cryptocurrency prices multiple times weekly, with some logging in daily to stay updated on market movements.
Surge in Online Activity Across the UK
The survey also sheds light on internet usage patterns across the UK. On average, individuals spend approximately three-and-a-half hours online daily, with 20% of respondents admitting to over five hours of screen time each day. Interestingly, weekends witness a similar trend, with 64% of participants being most active online between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Among these late-night users, 19% gravitate towards YouTube, indicating a blend of work-related browsing and nocturnal habits.
Notable Trends in Northern UK Cities
Northern cities exhibit distinct digital behaviors. In Manchester, 27% of residents frequently use Instagram, the highest percentage among surveyed cities. Sheffield distinguishes itself with 32% of its population actively engaging with TikTok and 30% streaming music daily. Furthermore, Sheffield leads in daily online time, with 32% of its residents spending over five hours online. In contrast, only 11% of Brighton’s population matches this level of engagement.
Concerns Over Excessive Screen Time
The survey also highlights growing concerns regarding excessive screen time. Approximately 43% of Britons feel they squander time online, while 37% express anxiety over “doom-scrolling.” Additionally, a third of respondents believe reducing screen time would enhance their relaxation. These statistics underscore the ongoing struggle to balance digital consumption with personal well-being, as people navigate work communications, social media, and entertainment platforms.
Experts suggest that these regional variations can serve as valuable insights for guiding local projects and advertising strategies. Openreach’s Deputy CEO, Katie Milligan, noted that while it’s encouraging to witness areas adapting to digital lifestyles, it’s equally important to recognize the benefits of occasional digital detox.
