Ripple Executive Discusses XRP Ledger’s Involvement in Hidden Road Agreement

Ripple’s Strategic Integration of XRP Ledger into Prime Brokerage

In a revealing discussion on BFM Business, Cassie Craddock, Ripple’s Managing Director for the UK and Europe, shed light on the company’s innovative plans to incorporate the XRP Ledger into the realm of prime brokerage. The conversation revolved around Ripple’s significant investment, a $1.25 billion acquisition of the London-based firm, Hidden Road. Craddock highlighted that the soon-to-be-launched Ripple USD-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, is poised to serve as collateral. This pivotal move is anticipated to facilitate the seamless bridging between the digital asset sphere and traditional finance (TradFi), marking a significant milestone in the industry.

The Impact of the XRP Ledger on Financial Transactions

Craddock provided insight into the strategic plan to transition Hidden Road’s entire post-trade infrastructure onto the XRP Ledger. She stated, “The XRP Ledger will be integral to post-trade operations for all of Hidden Road’s prime brokerage services.” This transition, with settlement finality on XRPL occurring within three to five seconds, aims to drastically reduce the traditional post-trade timelines, which can extend up to 24 hours. Hidden Road’s current operations involve processing over 50 million transactions daily and clearing more than $10 billion, making this integration an ambitious real-world performance evaluation for Ripple’s twelve-year-old blockchain technology.

Ripple’s Expanding Institutional Market

The acquisition of Hidden Road opens doors to an extensive institutional market for Ripple. Annually, Hidden Road clears approximately $3 trillion across various sectors, including foreign exchange, derivatives, fixed income, and digital assets, catering to over 300 hedge funds, market makers, and proprietary trading firms. Craddock suggested that this captive clientele represents a substantial opportunity for Ripple, emphasizing their need for advanced digital asset infrastructure. These institutions will benefit from Ripple’s existing payment and custody solutions.

Benefits of RLUSD as a Cross-Margin Asset

The integration of RLUSD as a cross-margin asset is set to enhance Hidden Road’s existing model, which allows clients to use Bitcoin or US treasuries as collateral for foreign exchange trades. The introduction of a fully-backed dollar stablecoin facilitates what Craddock describes as “bridging” between cryptocurrency and traditional asset classes. The RLUSD will operate natively on the XRPL, enabling clients to commit capital and settle trades through a streamlined, atomic workflow.

Community Insights and Future Prospects

CryptoEri, a well-known crypto analyst, highlighted the operational potential of this integration in a social media post. She noted that the XRP Ledger might play a vital role in handling actual transactions, such as trade settlements and RLUSD collateral movements, as well as managing data related to trade details and clearing processes. While she acknowledged that further details would emerge from Ripple and other ledger experts, her comments aligned with Ripple’s vision of transforming the ledger into an active, real-time clearing platform.

The acquisition, announced on April 8, 2025, is still pending regulatory approval. Hidden Road’s existing connections with major platforms like Coinbase International, OKX, Deribit, Bitfinex, and Bullish present Ripple with an established distribution network for RLUSD once the deal is finalized. Meanwhile, Craddock emphasized Ripple’s ongoing commitment to developing practical use cases and enhancing the utility of digital assets to solve challenges faced by banking and institutional clients.

Current Market Status

As of the latest market update, XRP is trading at $2.11, maintaining a stable position above support levels.
