Cardano Foundation Collaborates with Prominent Brazilian University
In a significant move to advance blockchain technology in Brazil, the Cardano Foundation has partnered with the esteemed Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio). Widely acknowledged as a leading institution in research and development, PUC-Rio will work alongside Cardano to revolutionize the energy sector through innovative blockchain solutions.
Strategic Partnership with PUC-Rio
PUC-Rio stands among the top five private universities globally, renowned for its exceptional research and development contributions. With a well-established history of collaborations in the energy sector, including previous engagements with Petrobras, this partnership with the Cardano Foundation signifies a new chapter in technological advancement.
Focus on Blockchain Innovation
The collaboration will empower PUC-Rio’s Ledger Labs, a dedicated research division exploring Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) in finance and business. Supported by the Cardano Foundation, the labs will delve into blockchain economics, decentralized finance (DeFi), governance of decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs), and digital asset management.
Frederik Gregaard, CEO of the Cardano Foundation, emphasized the importance of education and innovation in driving blockchain progress. “Our collaboration with PUC-Rio ensures the development of future industry leaders and regulators who can leverage this groundbreaking technology to tackle real-world issues and generate a positive global impact,” he stated.
Advancing Renewable Energy Solutions
The partnership aims to develop blockchain-based solutions that enhance renewable energy production, consumption, and value chains. Collaborative research and pilot programs with Petrobras will focus on applying Cardano’s blockchain to track and verify energy outputs, optimize operational workflows, and maintain data integrity.
Ledger Labs at PUC-Rio will serve as the hub for these studies. Leonardo Lima, Vice-Dean of the university and head of Ledger Labs, highlighted the partnership’s philanthropic dimension, focusing on social impact. “This collaboration marks the beginning of diverse use case development, not only in energy but also in philanthropy, targeting social impact projects,” he remarked.
Expanding the Blockchain Ecosystem
Beyond technical research, the alliance seeks to enrich PUC-Rio’s blockchain ecosystem. Initiatives include hosting joint events, supporting student-led social projects, and inviting external organizations to explore emerging blockchain strategies. A significant portion of this development will occur through A.L.B.A (Ada Labs for Blockchain Applications), part of Ledger Labs, which aims to integrate standards from the Universidad Tecnológica Nacional (UTN) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Rafael Fraga, LATAM Business Development Lead for the Cardano Foundation, noted, “Our partnership with PUC-Rio is the second collaboration with a Brazilian entity this year, following our engagement with SERPRO, the world’s largest public IT company, and our ongoing collaboration with Petrobras.”
As of the latest market update, ADA is priced at $0.605.
